RICHMOND AMBULANCE AUTHORITY SEES OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS AND REDUCED IT COSTS WITH IN MOTION TECHNOLOGY’S VEHICLE AREA NETWORK

Vancouver, BC and Richmond VA – March 6, 2007 - In Motion Technology, a leader in vehicle area networks for public safety, and the Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA), a leader in EMS advancements throughout the United States and abroad, today announced results from the deployment of In Motion’s onBoardTM Mobile Gateway and Gateway Manager service. Since its implementation in 2006, the Richmond Ambulance Authority has improved pre-hospital patient care with improved dispatch and response times; a 20 percent increase in vehicle life-expectancy; and a 50 percent reduction in mobile data communications costs. In addition to improvements in communications costs, RAA has reduced training costs, simplified network upgrades and increased workforce productivity – the efforts paramedic’s spent on ensuring communications were successful has been reduced from 50-90%.

“With In Motion Technology’s solution in our fleet, we have seen an improvement in overall response times. We now have a communications platform that will allow us to quickly and easily deploy future technology solutions to our paramedics that improve patient outcomes, driver safety and overall organizational efficiency, without the need for costly and time-consuming upgrades,” said Jerry Overton, Executive Director of the Richmond Ambulance Authority. “Our paramedics no longer worry about IT issues and can get on with the task of saving lives.”

The emergency medical services (EMS) industry is shifting from providing simple transportation toward providing mobile information technology. In fact, state and local governments are expected to increase spending on mobile data communications technologies by more than 75 percent through 2008 (INPUT). Recognizing that adoption of technology would improve patient care and IT operational effectiveness, the Richmond Ambulance Authority evaluated remote access solutions and selected In Motion Technology’s onBoard Mobile Gateway.

The In Motion onBoard Mobile Gateway turns ambulances into a secure local area network that senses and selects the best available wireless network, enabling emergency medical technicians to access and disseminate patient information from the field. The onBoard Mobile Gateway Manager monitors the vehicle location and health of the mobile network, helping public safety organizations improve response times.

With In Motion’s technology and minimal IT resources or management, the Richmond Ambulance Authority has deployed new applications including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems and driver safety software in their emergency vehicles – with the assurance that information will reach its destination. The Richmond Ambulance Authority plans to implement electronic patient care records in the coming months.

“In Motion’s vision is to enable seamless mobile connectivity for people in motion, and EMS organizations like Richmond Ambulance Authority are an excellent example of how this capability can help them to comply with state and local mandates, enhance communications and improve patient care,” said Kirk Moir, President and Chief Executive Officer, In Motion Technology. “Richmond Ambulance Authority is at the leading-edge of an industry poised to leverage technology as never before to improve pre-hospital patient care. We are extremely proud to be of service in helping an organization of RAA’s caliber achieve these improvements by deploying In Motion Technology products for mission-critical applications.”

About Richmond Ambulance Authority
In 1991, the Richmond City Council and the city manager decided to implement an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system that placed the patient first and guaranteed its performance to the City's residents. The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) was created with the requirement that it meet both stringent response performance and exacting clinical standards. Richmond Ambulance Authority provides EMS services to a day-time population of over 1,000,000 and a night-time population of about 200,000 people, over a 62 square mile area. The Authority responds to approximately 135 calls per day and transports on average 110 patients per day. RAA’s emergency response times are among the fastest in the nation; ambulances are on the scene of life threatening emergencies in less than 8 minutes and 59 seconds in more than 90% of all responses.
