AMR AND AMERICAN EMERGENCY VEHICLES PARTNER TO IMPROVE AMBULANCE SAFETY AND OPERATIONS EFFICIENCY

In Motion Technology Extends Wireless Access to "Ambulance of the Future"

EMS Expo, New Orleans, LA, August 24, 2005 - American Medical Response (AMR), the country's leading ambulance service provider, and American Emergency Vehicles (AEV), the country's leading ambulance outfitter, today unveiled their second generation "Ambulance of the Future" that includes technology enhancements to seamlessly extend simple, effective local area networking to EMS personnel in the field. In Motion Technology provides the "Mobile local area network (mLAN)" technology that enables this communications infrastructure. The company's new onBoard Mobile Gateway 1000 transparently routes data traffic between the multiple devices in and around the ambulance and AMR's operations control centers via a secure virtual private network.

"We have made over 30 safety and technology enhancements to the second concept vehicle based on feedback we received from the field," comments Bill Tara, AMR's Chief Information Officer. "In terms of communications, our aim has always been to enable our EMS personnel to be more responsive in the field by improving access to critical data. In Motion's mobile gateway improves mobile data connectivity by allowing AMR to simplify data communications at the vehicle level."

The OMG 1000 offers cost-effective, reliable and secure wireless wide area access for mission critical, mobile workgroups using multiple mobile devices and running many applications over both public and private networks. Aimed at increasing operational efficiency while reducing total cost of ownership, the gateway allows EMS personnel in the field to work with the devices and applications they are used to and seamlessly connect to applications and data stored on servers at the office. As well, critical data previously stored on mobile devices, putting that data at risk if the device is stolen, that data can now be stored securely on the gateway.

"We realize that enabling people, applications, and processes with new wireless communications technology is increasingly complicated," says Kirk Moir, President and CEO of In Motion Technology. "Organizations want to adopt reliable new technologies without disrupting operational processes or spending more money than absolutely necessary on new infrastructure. With that aim in mind, we created oMG 1000 to securely and seamlessly extend an organization's IT assets to the field, seamlessly integrating the back-end with field devices as well as acting as an server to store sensitive data in a more secure location than the mobile laptop. Ultimately, our objective is to extend mission-critical data to the mobile workers without disrupting their normal work practices."
